The Historic Main Street Business Alliance (HMBA) is a 501(c)6 not-for-profit corporation formed in 1990 by interested and proactive merchants eager to tackle and manage many of the issues affecting the downtown business district. In the fall of 2007 the city approved the formation of a Business Improvement District, now managed and operated by the HMBA. The purpose of the Alliance is to promote, enhance and encourage activities and an environment that will be beneficial to the businesses in the historic Main Street area of Park City. The goals and strategies of the Alliance have changed with the times but have maintained their key mission of promoting the district as a viable, vital and dynamic place to live, work and play.

Per the bylaws of the Alliance, the goals and objectives of the Alliance are:
(a) Advertising, promotion, marketing and management of the District as an exciting, diverse, viable location for work, entertainment and residential usages that is active year round.

(b) Encourage maintenance and streetscape programs through better coordination of activities, and expanded operations.

(c) Providing a forum for discussion concerning problems within the District and a mechanism for reaching consensus.

(d) Present a unified voice representing the District to Park City, Summit County, the State of Utah, and the general public.

(e) Coordinate a calendar of events listing cultural, sports, special promotions and other activities within the District.

(f) Act as a liaison with various governmental entities and agencies.

Monthly Meetings
The HMBA is made up of an Executive Director, a Board of Directors of 15 merchants, and an Executive Committee made up of a subgroup of these members. In addition, the HMBA invites a select group of ex-officios and regular guests who represent other organizations whose daily business affects the HMBA. The Board meets monthly on the third Tuesday of each month at a Main Street business, with no meetings scheduled August and January. Meetings are open to the public unless a private/closed door session is scheduled outside the regular monthly meetings.
